The Taronga Zoo Platypus Research Centre project involved a complete electrical infrastructure upgrade to support specialised aquatic research facilities and life-support systems for the platypus habitat.
Electrical scope
- Supply and installation of a new distribution switchboard, with submains reticulated back to the main switchboard in an adjacent building
- Underground conduit and pit system for submains and fibre-optic cabling between buildings
- Installation of a fibre-optic backbone to the zoo’s existing network infrastructure
- New general power and dedicated circuits for aquatic tanks, pumps, filtration and environmental-control systems
- New general, task and emergency lighting
- Communications and data systems for monitoring, automation and wireless access points
Project outcome
The project required close stakeholder coordination to deliver stable, reliable and low-interference electrical infrastructure within a live zoological environment, supporting ongoing platypus research and conservation.
